The only experience I have had with wild mushrooms is a tragic one. Many years ago, when we lived in Michigan we boarded our mare and stallion with a very nice lady. One day we got a call from the lady's neighbor telling us that she had died and her son was on life support. It seems that they had gone out mushroom harvesting with a friend who KNEW mushrooms and a few days later the lady and her son went back to the same area to pick more. They came home and made a mushroom omelette. The next day the neighbor came over and couldn't get anyone to the door so they went in the house to check on the mother and son. Mom was dead and the son was unconscious.
I really love mushrooms, but only the ones I buy from the grocery store -- the white button type - and the canned ones. Mushrooms scare me. |
