And people get summer cuts because usually dogs are out and about more in the summer and it's easier maintenance. I know my active dog (who is in mud, pool water, dirt, and grass, etc every day) would never tolerate the brushing and maintenance that comes along with a long coat. It would almost be cruel for him to deal with, unless I was putting him in wraps, which I would just never do or take the time to.

Yorkies do not have an undercoat, at all. So their hair will keep them as warm as the hair on our own heads keep us. Not much.
I am aware they don't have an undercoat. I wouldn't shave Jasper ever FULL STOP for aesthetic purposes. If it had to be done in the name health, then yes. That is one opinion.

Jasper's hair right is fine for me to care for, at the moment. It's probably never gonna be super long. Or show dog material, with the rice paper. It's easy enough to brush, when you are consistent. And I don't find it cruel.
