For what it's worth, I have a yorkie that has a very sensitive GI tract, and prone to colitis, too. She has problems with chicken, yogurt, and regular fat beef (she could only have lean ground beef - at least 96 percent lean). Also, she could only have a low-fat, low-protein diet (25 percent protein). Oh. She can't have pet supplements either. They make her vomit.

My home-cooking recipe for her is simply:

25% lean, ground beef (96% lean)
50% white rice
25% veggies (peas and canned plain pumpkin)
Some fish oil (human grade supplement)
Some calcium powder (human grade supplement)
Probiotics (Fortiflora)

This relieved Tatiana's diarrhea and colitis. Long bouts of diarrhea and colitis can weaken a dog. Perhaps this is what happened to Dozer?
