Yorkie snapping at people - new behavior We got our yorkie, Teddy a little over a month ago. He's a year old. When we got him, he was super sweet, rarely barked, and would have no problem with strangers. I could take him to the park and he would be very gentle with little kids.
Since we've had him, he has started snapping and barking at strangers. We have a 3 year old and 5 year old and he will snap at them if they are having melt downs. He also barks, but doesn't snap at my 2 year old nephew. We have also had my mother-in-laws dog stay with us who barks a lot I'm wondering if Teddy has picked up on that behavior. The little boy next door came over who Teddy has met before. We had him calmly hold out his hand and let Ted sniff him and he snapped at him.
I have been his main caregiver, so we have wondered if some of it has been that he is protective of me. We have had the girls start feeding him and take him out to go to the bathroom and teaching them to be more firm with him so he sees them as equal to me and my husband. This has been helping. Is there anything we can do to help him with strangers? TIA |
