Since you've had your girl for a while, and this is relatively new behavior, has there been any changes in your household or with your neighbors? Have they changed working hours or are there any new pets in the area?

Something in her routine of life seems to have changed as she has a heightened sense of alertness. Keep in mind that a dog can hear what the human ear cannot.

Example: this happened with an aquaintance's dog, same thing you are going through, and to make a long story short ...

it turned out that the woman in the duplex next to them was having a "friend" over after her husband went to work. The friend would sneak in during the night and their dog would hear the noise, but they never did ... at least not until the huband got hurt on the job and came home early one night.
