Teddy who has an almost floor length true silk coat was silky from puppyhood. His hair grows fast and needs trims a lot. I also have Winston who has a cotton coat and his hair grows even faster than the silky coat but is a hassle to manage. His hair is dragging on the floor and I'm tempted to cut it off. Usually a black coated yorkie without breaks in the coat of that steel blue will stay black. The show breeders would know more about this though.
