To start, the band should be very loose, but tight enough to stay. If it's put in correctly, they should barely feel it.

Once they are very used to the band, try very lightweight bows and work up from there.

It also helps to train them to lay their head on a folded towel or pillow.

Mozzi already has a tan Susan Lanci bow. I'm also planning bows in camo, denim, dark colors and the ones w/tiny plastic things like basketballs, flags, and other "manly" things.

Also, it helps to distract them immediately after putting the band/bow in, a walk, play session, etc.

I also love the tiny claw clips, they are fast, easy and light weight.
I like the tiny claw clips, too. I call them "man clips", so as not to embarrass Max. He looks adorable in them. He has some 'manly' sweaters, but we still get the 'she' comment now and then. It's funny, because my bigger Yorkie has a decidedly masculine face and looks silly in a pigtail. I never (almost never) pull up his hair.
