Apparently, Florida allows people to own them with proper permitting.
"According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Web site, a wallaby owner must obtain a class III wildlife permit, which requires the owner to fill out a questionnaire about the animals care. The permit is free and is the same class permit required for raccoons, opossums and skunks."

I'm not so sure it'd work for me; they require a LOT of care. He sure was adorable though & I hope he comes for more visits. I learned a little about them from his owners. Did you know that you can break their ribs by picking them up around the middle? I nearly passed out when his owner picked him up by his tail but then he explained that to me.
Walter was very talkative once he got down on the floor & had a look around. He makes a loud clicking sound that reminds me of a squirrel.
For those of you wondering, I kept the dogs in my bedroom while he was here even though he's just a baby joey still.
