I had 3 ferrets at one time (back when I lived in Maryland). They can cause distruction if you let them. Trust me. But I agree with your old co-worker...they are so entertaining and fun to play with...and smart - makes it worth it.
With that said, I will never have another ferret. They all died very young and had horrible times with fleas, anemia, blood transfusions, and one had cancer. I loved them so much and it was very heart breaking
