The price sounds steep to me, but it's been a while since I've had a Yorkie need a lot of teeth pulled. I think $500-$600 is average for a cleaning, not sure about extractions. While the stinky breath probably indicates the vet is right, I'd be inclined to get a second opinion, at least in terms of the cost.

A friend just had to have all of her Bichon's teeth pulled, and she was actually happy with the outcome. The breath instantly got better, and she could still eat just fine.

Don't beat yourself up about it. Little dogs are notorious for teeth issues. I brush them daily, but I think all it's done is put off the inevitable a little longer.
