Ugghhh! I have met a few males who feel that a male dog or cat does not need to be neutered. This always turns out bad for the animal.
I had a small female Maltese that developed Pyometra during her first heat. She almost died. I had never heard of it and did not even know to watch for it. She developed a fever and thankfully I was able to get her right into the vet. I'm glad you got your friend's dog into a good vet.
