What a sad representation of a vet this person must be! You would think for the dog's own safety he would want the little dog spayed! She will go into heat. She will attract other male dogs when she does go into heat. She will have a good chance of getting a serious uterine infection as well as the possibility of cancer.

Maybe this vet feels uncomfortable dong surgery on a small dog? I certainly would feel uncomfortable having him do surgery on a small dog. I would head to a more experienced vet myself. There are vets that are very experienced in doing spay/neuters on much smaller animals than your friend's dog. Vets that treat small animals like ferrets do surgery on tiny little creatures. Vets that volunteer at animal shelters do surgery on kittens and puppies of all kinds.

That pup will continue to grow and could add more than a pound or more before it is fully mature. Hard to believe a vet could say such a thing!
