Sadly I know all too well what its like having surgery. I am scheduling the next surgery on May 30th for the last of the work I need on my feet. That will be my 21st surgery (should be some sort of points reward program for people like me lol). So I speak from lots of experience
Remember to be good to yourself, take all the time you need to heal and although I find it hard to do, dont rush. Its really really hard to deal with a long recovery period and its easy to push yourself in an effort to speed things along. Six months is a long haul, rely on your friends and loved ones and I found it was helpful to have my laptop so that I still felt like I was "getting out there" even it was only online lol.
Sorry to hear that your surgery will be more complicated than expected I can imagine how disappointed you must be. I hope everything goes as well as can be and that your feeling better as soon as possible. Take care
