My Huey hates to be brushed and only tolerates the grooming scissors and clippers at short intervals. Since I have very curly, easy to knot hair, I spray it with Infusium leave in conditioner. On badly tangled days, when it isn't time for a whole bath and blow dry, I have sprayed Huey down with it, too, to make the brush out detangling process go easier. Of course, he hates the spray bottle too. You also might try that no tangle stuff they make for kids hair. A really good conditioner with the bath also helps. I actually use Pantene on Huey and it makes him very silky and easy to brush out. I can't comment on the ice on the hair. We don't get snow more than an inch deep most of the time. I do occasionally have to cut out a small mat or two under his arms, just because that is so tender when the hair is pulled.
