I assume that your female is in heat ?
Unless you want to become a breeder and have a litter of pups its best to keep them separate at any cost. They need to be supervised round the clock and when not. One needs to be caged. They should go out side to potty separate or with supervision for sure. It only takes moments for the male to mount the female.
Dogs, both the female and the male will do what ever it takes to be breed. Once your female get to the standing stage of her heat, it will get much worse.
You may want to think about getting one or the other fixed to prevent this from happening again.
