We came home last night and I haven't called my MIL this morning. I am hoping she is sleeping. The hospital has been nice to her and even gave her an empty patient room to use because the ICU waiting area is full. Thank you for all of your helpful advise. |
Yes, and USUALLY, that is the first thing the docs suspect with severe diarrhea, and they check that first....that culture is done on a stool specimen. Dont give up on his kidneys.....they will try to rehydrate them, ande sometimes it takes awhile...and they may have to do dialysis for a short period of time....letting the kidneys rebound, slowly, dialysis taking over the work of of the kidneys, letting them heal.....and they very well could come back....it happens this way frequently, so this is not just a "hope" or a "wish" ....this happens. As far as the diarrhea is concerned, they are probably already treating him with the meds to fight c-diff....then if the culture comes back negative, they will stop that medicine....if it comes back positive, they have a jump on it. This hospital sounds like a very good place, and the docs sound like they are doing things that you normally expect from a doctor in that particular situation. and of course, the compassion for your MIL is what a caring staff would do for our patients and their family.
