Unless there is a real concern about a shunt, I'd consider trying the Dodds diet. The liver needs protein to regenerate itself, but some proteins are easier for the liver to digest. Consider using white ocean fish, skinless boneless chicken breast or egg white for the proteins and stay away from red meat. White potatoes, sweet potatoes, or no yolk noodles make up most of the rest of the diet, and you can add some veggies. Over cooked carrots, squash, and green beans are all very good veggies to add. Also small meals several times throughout the day are much easier on the liver than feeding just twice daily. My pups numbers are finally coming down now after a serious issue with his liver. He's been on the dodds diet for eight months now and I feed him small amounts every three hours. Hope it's nothing serious with the pup.
