My husband had a permit to carry a concealed handgun. He's a deer hunter and in Texas there are lots of wild hogs. It's dangerous if you are walking to your stand or stalking a deer and a hog comes up on you and charges. So, he got his permit so that he could carry his handgun to shoot hogs, if necessary (it's kinda hard to shoot a charging hog with a rifle). They do have to go through extensive training, shooting in front of instructors, take a test, and background checks.
He let his license expire because now that he has health problems, he has to ride the 4-wheeler to the stand and will no longer be stalking any deer!!!
