Well I have a 14 month old and I had the same problem. Turns out, I was the problem! If she didnt eat right away I would RUN to try something else. Five different dog foods, boiled chicken, wellness wet, fresh pet, carrots, romain lettuce, yogurt, cottage cheese, fresh turkey..you name it. She even stopped drinking water out of a bowl so I ended up mixing her daily water needs into her food to make a gravy! She had me good..
Anyway, I was giving her alot of veggie treats and occ bully stick during the day thinking I was quite the nutritional food expert. What I ended up giving her was diarreah!
Thanks to a great yorkie mom I stopped all that, gave her only boiled chicken and pumpkin for 5 days got rid of the diareah and started fresh. NO more treats during the day, none. I started her back on her royal canin calm kibble, put in some boiled chicken and put it down..She was starving so she ate all! I now only give her her kibble with chicken or a few bits of steak or turkey on it. Occasionally I give her a teaspoon of cottage cheese with her dry kibble. Thats it! Her treats are the same as her food. Bits of chicken or turkey or cottage cheese. NOTHING else. She now drinks water out of her bowl.
I think we rush to make sure they are okay so they get us turned inside out giving them anything or everything. It actually works against us. Keep some nutrical on hand for the really stubborn ones (you can rub it on their gums if they refuse to lick it)and hopefully they will come around.. |
