Heartworm is anywhere and everywhere where mosquitoes are present.

The biggest con of not treating against Heartworm is "death".
The pro is that your pup will be treated against it.

Believe me when I say it is one of the hardest things in the world to have to deal with knowing that your dog died of Heartworm when it could have been prevented. I lost my Shadow to Heartworm almost 11 yrs ago. Heartworm was faily new to our area and we chose not to have him treated. Plus were young, money was tight and I didn't know the consequence would be the loss of my dog. We made the wrong decision and I regret it to this day. It was our job to protect him and we failed.
I will never make that mistake again.

We already had Quincy at that time and I left the vet office after having Shadow put to sleep with the Hearworm medication for Quincy in hand.
