I take Julie out about every 1.5 to 2.5 hours.
When it comes to housebreaking, I give her liver treats (cut small) as the reward. When I "catch her in the act" I pick her up saying "outside" and promptly pick her up and take her to her potty spot outside. If I don't catch her in the act, I keep silent and wipe the mess up.

My Mom is shocked and amazed that Julie likes going into her crate. I've told her I've never made it a place of punishment. I make it as inviting as I can, plus that is the one I use for traveling.

Is she 100% housebroken? No. The responses that I've seen posted to you make me realize I am really having success with her and not to flog myself so much. In the two months she's been in my home, this was the first day for no accidents.

Hope this helps.

QUESTION: Since both yorkie and shih tzu are small breeds, how long can they hold their urine and how often do you take them out to get busy before you consider them "housebroken". With Sabu, he has free reign of the house. He can hold his urine all day if need be. For the smaller breed, this is all new to me. Thanks.
