Introduction and Question Hello, We are Jane (human) and Ella (dog). I have been a lurker of this group for a couple of years and have enjoyed all discussions and support. I need to address Ella's overeating: I rescued her at 11 mos. and 4.2 lbs. The vet said she needs to put on weight. She lives for food. She is 5.5 yrs. old and now a whopping 6.8 lbs. She is a couch potato. The only fetching she will do is if there is a food reward for each retrieval (smart dog) and gets bored with the game. We are not getting out much-hope to improve as it gets warmer. She eats 1/4 cup of all natural, weight control dog food twice/day. But she will go back and lick that empty bowl, glancing over her shoulder to see if I'm going to get up and do anything about it (smart dog). Can anyone suggest food substitutions such as veggies? I'm thinking of reducing her food more and just doing veggies or something at night. I'll take any suggestions, food/exercise-related, as I'm sure there is something I haven't thought of. Looking forward to getting to know other members. I can really relate to the Jenny Craig for dogs post, it is Ella's story exactly. Best, Jane |
