I NEVER have a heating pad anywhere near the babies on any setting but low! I also never put it where the babies have even a remote possibility of getting directly on it....I always place the heating pad UNDER the bed they are laying in/on. I never put a blanket in with them, for reason above...it has happened to me....voice of experience. I will cover my whelping crate with a twin size electric blanket, and set the blanket on medium or high if need be...that will warm up the temp inside the whelping crate to the preferred 88-90*, keeps drafts off babies, provides seclusion and quiet for momma and babies....
