Not silly at all. We too wanted a playmate for Sophie so we got Hazel. Hazel however turned out to be a bully and we felt bad for Sophie so we ended up giving Hazel to our niece where she could be the only child
It didn't work for us but many yters have two or more dogs and it works very well for them. I guess it would depend on their personalities.
