If you're planning on breeding, this is one of the things you have to be careful of teaching at a young age. I don't think jumping is good for their legs, so I taught Joey to use the steps to get on and off the couch and bed, if he jumps I put him back on the couch and tell him to use the steps, and he is rewarded for doing it correctly. I've also been told, it's best not to sleep with a breeding female. Breeding dogs are working dogs and really should be treated differently than pet dogs for their safety, as well as their pups’ safety.
