I carry mase with me, I don't know about carrying a knife, because you will have to get close enough to the person to use it. With the mase, it can shoot pretty far. I don't know where to get any that you can carry on a key chain, but I know that you can get it in the automotive section at wal-mart. And I think its really cheap. I do think that a self defence class is a good idea for any woman. Even if your not out at night, just because we need to be able to defend ourselves! Bad things can happen with any type of weapon, including mase. I think just having it in case of an emergeny is a good thing. But explore all your options like self-defence classes as well.
