As a trainer we start training as early as 10 weeks. My puppy was about 12 wks when she started and she excelled quickly. Yorkies are very intelligent yet stubborn breeds. But when you start at a young age they learn quicker. Just like a child learns faster than adult, so does a puppy. But that doesn't mean older dogs and adult humans can't learn. Where I train we use rewards every time, reward does not always mean a treat. That can include praise, play, attention and treats, or anything else your dog enjoys. If you use treats always make sure they are small and can me eaten quickly. Time taken to chew can distract them from what they are learning. Remember does don't know english, so body language is the best way to train.
