Those thoughts make me do everything I can think of to try to keep him as likely as possible to ID him should he get out. So, besides his chip, he wears that ID tag so there is a phone number to call Home Again and they can contact me.
Stories like this remind me how important it is that I go ahead and get this done. We are so strict with his outdoor activity and he is not a door dasher, that we just havent done it yet, but recently I had some work on the cable and I tethered Huey on 3 leashes end to end inside the house so he could move freely but not get out, since I feel it is MY responsibility to keep him in, not expect the cable guys to not let him out...that isn't their job. But, what if I were lax and didn't take these precautions? What if we were away from the house and he somehow got away? I could lose him... I think my greatest fear is the next door neighbor and her 60 cats, and no chip will save him if he got on her property...she has threatened that I would never see him again. I dont know why we haven't chipped him yet other than not having a sense of urgency about it.
