I appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers. Toki is in for her scintigraphy this morning and I'll be discussing options with the vet tomorrow when she is discharged.

Of course they would probably biopsy the liver anyway. Teddy Bear had one, but they are holding the sample until the BAT results come in. To send that out is a tad bit pricey and they said it really is not necessary if his BATs are ok. |
The scintigraphy seemed like it would be a much cheaper option (and much less invasive) than exploratory surgery although if it turns out that Toki does indeed have a shunt that must be surgically repaired anyway, then the cost of the scintigraphy will just be one that I have to eat. I keep re-reading your thread about Teddy Bear. That is incredible that they didn't detect a shunt until he was ~8 years old and that he was pretty much asymptomatic. I'm so glad to hear that he is doing well and hope that his BATs come back normal. When my first vet mentioned the bladder stones, I honestly didn't know much about how they were treated or what they were caused by. I am going to go ahead and ask about having them surgically removed so that they can figure out the type of stone and also perform a biopsy on the liver.
YT is amazing! I really do appreciate you ladies sharing your experiences with your own pups...you really can't find this type of support and guidance anywhere else
