Yep, the great Horned Owl is much more bad news than any other raptor. They are far more aggressive, silent, and not easily intimidated, even by humans. Their talon grip is about 500 lbs. per square inch, ten times the strength of a human grip.
I was the unfortunate recipient of a close call with a Great Horned a few years ago. I was birding during the day and unknown to me I happened to be near a GHO nest where a female was incubating eggs. By the time i discovered her and the nest, I was ambushed and dive-bombed by the male. I barely saw him coming and hit the ground. He hit me on the back of the head & took my hat off. I swear he could have scalped if he really wanted to. It was a warning shot. I got the hell outta there!
Little dogs don't stand a chance!
