One of the ladies I sold a little girl to, was left out in the fenced in back yard, "for just a second while I went and got my coffee"....and by the time she got back to the back door, she did not see the little dog. She called her and got no response....so she hit the back yard at a run, rounded the side of the house and saw the baby lying motionless, on top of a red ant nest.....TOTALLY COVERED IN ANTS!!!!! She grabbed her up, giving the unconscious baby breaths and pumping on her chest, ran thru the house, grabbed keys and arrived at the emergency clinic within 8 minutes....they continued to resusitate the baby, full blown anaphylaxis, and miracle of miracles, they saved her life....but it triggered what is called "the cascade" and she is now getting allergy shots and has a horrible time with allergies.... The vet told my friend he was not sure any of her labs and organ functions would return to normal....all because of the massive amount of ant toxin the baby had gotten. The vet had said she obviously was not allergic to ants when this happened, or it would have absolutely killed her............she had hundreds of ant stings........poor little baby has NEVER been left unsupervised again, for even one minute. The funny thing about all of this is my friend was in the waiting room at the emergency hospital, and happened to notice she was in her pajama top, underpants, and barefoot! The staff was nice enough to give her a pair of scrubs to get her home in.....
