Then he's likely getting too much food. I doubt he'd be playing with it if he were very hungry. Hungry dogs eat unless they are ill or have psychological issues. I think I'd be tempted to cut out or way, way down on that middle meal and see how he does. Just be sure to watch him to be sure he's not getting hypoglycemic, etc. And of course, with anything like this, pass it by your vet before you do it.
