I would worry about just wounding a bear, that might make them extremely aggressive. I know how to shoot and could probably kill one if I had to. But is stealing bird food and destroying property a valid reason to shoot one ? On the other hand the bear is a danger to your dog and maybe people too, what to do ? I guess I would call the news, police, etc. and keep calling, until someone removed it from the area. I am so glad this was not an outside confrontation and that you and Gracie are ok. |
The game warden says it is illegal to shoot a bear except during hunting season unless it is attacking or threatening you or a member of your family. I don't have a gun but I can tell you it would be very hard to hit a black bear in the dark. I think flying bullets would be more dangerous than the bear it's self. I do agree that a wounded bear would be more dangerous than some hungry bear checking out bird feeders and garbage cans.
She told me that if the bear stays around and causes trouble they have a team they can call in to trap the bear and relocate it. I have a feeling it may come to that. I am not that far away from the town limit so it could easily get into a more residential area. He is not looking for trouble with people as so far he has only been around at night time. I hope they can get rid of him before people show up with guns because someone could really get hurt in that case.
