Bears OH MY ! Bears are another thing Yorkie owners need to worry about. One swipe of a bear's paw can cause a huge amount of damage and even death. A barking dog may be seen a threat. I am not sure what advice would be appropriate.
I would worry about just wounding a bear, that might make them extremely aggressive. I know how to shoot and could probably kill one if I had to. But is stealing bird food and destroying property a valid reason to shoot one ? On the other hand the bear is a danger to your dog and maybe people too, what to do ? I guess I would call the news, police, etc. and keep calling, until someone removed it from the area. I am so glad this was not an outside confrontation and that you and Gracie are ok.
