A 10 lb dog is still a small dog. In the big scheme of things, you wont notice the difference between the sizes.
Actually, I saw a woman in the pet store with a 2 lb dog, and I would NEVER want that. Yeah, as a puppy I get it...but not as a full grown dog. They have to be sturdy, and I want a dog, not a hamster.
I totally understand your reasoning and it makes perfectly good sense to me. I think probably because they do not have children, longs for the companion of a dog, she's always had small dogs in the past and feels most comfortable with them, plus big city life it is more sensible to have a small dog. Seriously, a small dog is much sweeter than a hamster and they are not nocturnal, easy to transport etc, etc., etc
