I started out with mine in a kiddie pool, with about 2 inches of water in the bottom. I let mine get used to playing around in shallow water, and then I just incrased it a little at a time...when it got deep enough to where they started getting boyant, I would hold my hand under their tummy and let them dog paddle around....finally, I put a life vest on mine, and let them tool around in the water, while we bobbed around in there with them...they eventually got to where they were not fearful at all of the water.....NOW, they "swim" in any water they can find....kiddie pool, our swimming pool, ANY water bowl large enough for them to get into....etc! I am not a trainer, and I am sure there is a better, quicker way to do this, but it worked for me and it worked for my guys, no fear of the water and they all call themselves "Rosehill Water Yorkitrievers".......
