I know what you mean. My first husband (loooooooong time ago), couldn't even change a lightbulb. My current hunny pie hubby knows how to do everything. He and I (well mostly he) built on an 800 sq ft addition to our house, but now that he has developed heart problems, he can't do much at all. But he can still be the supervisor!
It does greatly increase the cost of things when you have to hire them done.
