If she is only 4 or 5 months old it is unlikely that she has even been in heat yet much less pregnant. Usually when they go into heat their nipples do enlarge a little. The picture looked as though they were still normal sized.
I have read that some vets are saying it is better to wait until a pup has attained full growth before spaying. Of course many have been doing the spay/neuter at much younger ages in recent years. There are arguments that go both ways. I always tried to get my females spayed before their first heat because I almost lost a small female Maltese to a uterine infection during her first heat. Gracie was too small to spay at that age so we waited until she was about a year old. You have to be able to really protect your female if you are going to go through a first heat as they do attract males from miles away. There is also the issue of uterine infections. It is not real common but something to watch for. |
