I would take him into the vet because I think if the noise is a honking noise, it may be collapsing trachea. I've recently been studying the differences between that and reverse sneezing because my niece's Chi makes a weird noise when he gets excited/playing. He doesn't honk though so I think his is the reverse sneezing.
