I think it is because there is enough wildlife to sustain the predators and they don't bother the human zones that are scattered around the area. We do take precautions with our pets and the ranchers and farmers keep a pretty close watch on their own stock.

Nature can appear cruel from a human prespective but there is a very real balance in how it all works. As long as those predators keep their distance I stay out of what they are doing. The last time we had a really big hawk come into the area a flock of smaller birds chased the big bird away every time it landed in a tree. Within a couple of weeks it was gone.
All we can do is protect our babies- In realilty we took over their land. The housing track I live in took over acres of land- they left like a big chunk of land behind us- I always see hawks up behund my house circling above - I hear the Coyotes at night as well as the Owls... I'm fine with them-I know when outside Peanut is right next to me on a leash.

The people that lived here before told us they were outside with their min pincher and chi- they said a Coyote came and snatched the Min Pincher. I have never seen a Coyote down here over the fence, but then again Peanut is never out there without a leash..
