I'm glad you've taken this dog in, but I take offense to this! Gwenni is absolutely terrified of having her nails clipped. Terrified! Starting from about 6 mos old for some reason. Never had any trouble before that. We've tried everything. Even had 3 people trying to restrain her at the vets office and that's not safe either. The only time they've been cut down was when she was out for a dental cleaning. I'm not putting my dog at risk to get her nails trimmed. If that makes me a bad owner so be it! You can't judge ownership qualities based on long nails alone.
