Thanks everyone for your advice and support. Yes I am returning to only doing xrays now. It annoys me that I asked the vet to do an xray (willing to pay even more) to get an accurate reading and she told me not to bother. It was devastating -- I felt bad that my teen daughter witnessed the incident as well (she confided that she walked around in a haze the whole next day it was such a horrible sight). The mom actually took a few days before she would even look after her remaining puppy -- she hid and shook for days. Luckily I had another mom that had a small litter and took the puppy in for a few days. Mom is now obsessively watching her remaining child -- she is 3 weeks old, but mom still won't leave her for more than a few minutes. Yes I am disappointed with the vets office -- I was hoping for some sympathetic words, an explanation.... advice for the future... refund on the ultrasound??? I don't know... something to acknowledge what had happened!
