Don't ever hit your dog - it accomplishes the very opposite of what you're trying to do. Hitting a dog will create an anxious, confused, neurotic, scared, jittery, and cowering little dog....I wouldn't think that's what you're hoping for, is it?
Since you said you work...let's say you're at work, in your office - and you're doing
whatever...just
something, anything. Suddenly, a co-worker comes up and smacks you on the side of the head. Let me ask you, why did they do that? What were you doing wrong?
What, you don't know the answer? Well, neither does your dog when you do the same situation with her

. See how hitting doesn't work, all around? Teaching and communicating works, hitting doesn't.
I'd suggest you buy 'The Loved Dog' by Tamar Geller. She teaches us what 'dog language' is/means, since dogs speak a language other than English.
