What kind of growl? Is it a mad growl or a low pitched "play with me" kind of growl? If I'm not paying Huey enough attention, he will sit in front of me and "mmmmwwwwwffff" softly until I throw his ball or play with him. It could just be he wants to play. Huey isn't a cuddler, either, unless he instigates it, but will chase a ball all day if someone will just throw it.
