I just called TP and they do cover LPs unless pre existing, in US and Canada.

As for saving $50 a month, that is good too. But my dog had juvenile cataract surgery after I had the insurance for only a few months at a cost of around $3600 for one eye, and I for one am glad I was insured! He may have to get the other eye too, another large bill. Luxating patellas have a similar cost.
It is the luck of the draw and I feel more comfortable being insured, but to each his own.
