The ticks here in the Mid Atlantic states are really bad. Maryland is worse than Virginia, based on what I have read in dog forums. Ticks love my Teddy, so I carefully check my guys every time we come in from a walk. I can imagine how hard this must be for dogs who are strictly outdoor trained.
I have never done a Lyme vacc on either of my boys. My knowledge of this vacc is limited (the old Lyme), but anecdotal evidence seems to suggest that it does cause dogs to test positive and sometimes display symptoms.
