I agree with this. If possible, wait until close to a year old. This also requires vigilance, making sure your male doesn't come into contact with an un-spayed female. Intact males are also more likely to run in search of a female.
Max was neutered at 6 months and Teddy at 7 months. I believe even a month made a difference and wish I had waited a bit with Max.
