Generally a puppy will not overeat. They need the extra food while they are growing. Puppies usually burn a lot of energy/calories until about 8 months to 1 year.

There are always exceptions to the rules. I would go by body appearance rather than the scale. If you cannot feel Buddy's ribs when gently squeezing his torso, then he might be putting on a little too much weight.

The charts on food bags apply to all breeds. A 4lb Yorkie would need the same as a 4lb lab. The charts tend to estimate a little bit more than I would feed an adult however.
