I rarely discipline Tibbe but read his body language and have him sit or lie down before he is going to jump up or something. Discipline should be all about shaping and guiding a dog into what is the correct behavior so usually I will just say "uh oh" and take away the attention he is seeking or direct him into doing what is correct. Mostly, though, I stop it beforehand. If he's about to leave his yard off leash or pick up human medication from the floor, I would say "No!" or "Leave It!" or "Stop!", depending upon which he might be starting to do and then retrain him in that area until he was trained not to do that again. Of course, as we all know, canine discipline is never about hurting or scaring or intimidation.
