Max had 5 baby teeth pulled when he was neutered and did not have any problem chowing down his kibble when he came home that night.
It's individual to the dog. If you see your baby having trouble with the kibble, you can moisten it with water. I would be more comfortable doing that than changing to canned food.
I think most vets advise to feed a light dinner after a day of having anesthesia. Max is always starving after he has been under and does okay with his full meal.
